Lots of people talk to animals…Not very many listen though; that’s the problem. ~ Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh
If you are new to this blog, welcome! For those of you who have been here for days or years, Wado (Thank you). I am grateful to share with an audience who is willing to learn something new, and who is open to sharing with me. This is a loving community.
The World of Wildlife to The World of Pets
For as long as I can remember, animals have been my soulmates, best friends, and closest confidants. As I became a woman in the world I began to explore the science of them. I have studied animal welfare, applied behavior analysis, animal training, animal husbandry, ethology, and animal enrichment for nearly 20 years. During this time I have experienced the “A to Z of stress” that comes with living and working with exotic and domestic animals, so I am empathetic to people who are experiencing behavioral and medical issues with their beloved animal companions.
Beyond The Borders of Animal Training
I have been studying and practicing Energy Healing, holistic and alternative therapies, and animal communication for over a decade. I understand the depth and complexities of both human and animal illness. My work investigates the physical and mental challenges surrounding our energy, and our animal companion’s energy. I love to share this knowledge with others. My goal is to create a stronger connection between people, pets, and Mother Nature.
Conservation. Compassion. Science. Energy. Empathy.
These are the mediums in which I work.
Science and spiritualism are my tools.
Animals and Mother Nature are my Guides and greatest teachers.
“True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their own.”
― Nikos Kazantzakis
Throughout my professional career, my work has always focused on enhancing the human-animal bond, while promoting choice-based (force-free) training for all species. I am passionate about teaching these techniques to youth and adults everywhere. I am dedicated to inspiring and educating people of all ages and backgrounds to create a stronger connection with their animal companions while increasing safety and well-being of everyone in the home. Building trust while respecting the animal’s individual needs and preferences, enhances the bond between all walks of life.
The blending of science and spirituality is the work of the future. That future is now. – Amy Martin
In the past I was only science-based in my work, but now my work is a blend and balance of science, energy, and spiritual truths. As a Cherokee who is an Intuitive Empath I have always been passionate about connecting with all forms of life. I have a profound respect for every scaly, feathered, and furry species! My life’s work is dedicated to honoring and exploring the human-animal bond, while healing together as One. My passion is sharing what I have learned from life’s challenges, my animal friends, and Mother Nature.
These days I am the owner, founder, and chief operator of Conscious Companion™. I am on the advisory board for Family Paws Parent Education and I am a licensed presenter of the Dogs & Storks® and the Dogs & Toddlers™ programs. I serve on the Pet Professional Guild’s Cat Committee, and I am a Doggone Safe presenter. I am an active member of the Pet Professional Guild and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. I also serve on the board of advisers for the Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary.
Some of my favorite published works include “Target training and voluntary blood drawing of the Aldabra Tortoise” and “What’s In a Purr?”. You can read those here.
Right now I am in the process of writing a few books on four subjects that I am very passionate about: how to help senior cats age with grace and ease, kids and animal communication, The Standing Ones (our tree friends), and tips on living life as a HSP, and Intuitive Empath!
I am grateful you are here. My hope is that you will discover something new, something that challenges you, and something inspiring.
And may you experience, Life With Your Animal Companion, Improved!
