Why I Share with You

Lots of people talk to animals…Not very many listen though; that’s the problem.

~ Benjamin Hoff, The Tao of Pooh

If you are new to this blog, welcome!  For those of you who have been here for days or years, Wado (Thank you).  I am grateful to share with an audience who is willing to learn something new, and to share with me.

Conservation. Compassion. Science.  Energy.  Empathy.

These are the mediums in which I work.

Science and spiritualism are my tools.

Animals and Mother Nature are my Guides and greatest teachers.

For as long as I can remember, animals have been my soulmates, best friends, and closest confidants.  As I became a woman in the world I began to explore the science of them.  I have studied animal welfare, applied behavior analysis, animal training, animal husbandry, ethology, and animal enrichment for nearly 20 years.  During this time I have experienced the “A to Z of stress” that comes with living and working with exotic and domestic animals, so I am empathetic to people who are experiencing behavioral and medical issues with their beloved animal companions.

I have been studying and practicing Energy Healing, holistic and alternative therapies, and animal communication for nearly a decade.  I understand the depth and complexities of both human and animal illness. My work investigates the physical and mental challenges surrounding our energy, and our animal companion’s energy.

I love to share this knowledge with others.

My goal is to create a stronger connection between people, pets, and Mother Nature.

Throughout my professional career, my work has always focused on enhancing the human-animal bond, while promoting choice-based (force-free) training for all species.  I am passionate about teaching these techniques to youth and adults everywhere. I am dedicated to inspiring and educating people of all ages and backgrounds to create a stronger connection with their animal companions while increasing safety and well-being of everyone in the home. Building trust while respecting the animal’s individual needs and preferences, enhances the bond between all walks of life.

In the past I was only science-based in my work, but now my work is a blend and balance of science, energy, and spiritual truths. Enhancing the human-animal bond is my focus. I am dedicated to inspiring and educating animal and nature lovers (of all ages) through my writing and art.  Much of what I share here is focused around health and healing, animal enrichment, and force-free training for all species.

As a Cherokee who is an Intuitive Empath I have always been passionate about connecting with all forms of life.  I have a profound respect for every scaly, feathered, and furry species!

These days I am the owner, founder, and chief operator of Conscious Companion™.  I am on the advisory board for Family Paws Parent Education and I am a licensed presenter of the Dogs & Storks® and the Dogs & Toddlers™ programs.  I serve on the Pet Professional Guild’s Cat Committee, and I am a Doggone Safe presenter. I am an active member of the Pet Professional Guild and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants . I also serve on the board of advisers for the Cape Fear Parrot Sanctuary.

Some of my favorite published works include “Target training and voluntary blood drawing of the Aldabra Tortoise” and “What’s In a Purr?”.

Right now I am in the process of writing a few books on four subjects that I am very passionate about:  how to help senior cats age with grace and ease, kids and animal communication, The Standing Ones (our tree friends), and tips on living life as an Empath!

My life’s work is dedicated to honoring and exploring the human-animal bond.  My passion is sharing what I have learned from life’s challenges, animals, and Mother Nature.

My hope is that you will discover something new, something that challenges you, and something inspiring here.

May you experience, Life With Your Animal Companion, Improved!

Magma The Aldabra Tortoise
Visiting with my old friend, Magma, the 100 year young Aldabra Tortoise. I had the honor of caring for four of these gentle giants while working as a zookeeper, animal trainer, husbandry, and enrichment specialist at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, Louisiana for over a decade.

    1. Thank you. Magma, Xaviera, Obsidian, and Feldspar (his Aldabra family and mates) taught me many lessons. It took several years to gain their trust. Magma is such a gentle, old and wise soul. But don’t let his size and age fool you! He is quite a bold and clever old man. He successfully escaped a few times from his exhibit! If those giant tortoises could talk….I guess that’s what we can do for them; by telling some of their stories, others can learn from *them*. They are magnificent creatures to say the least.
