Today is National Vitamin C day, so I wanted to highlight a companion animal that needs Vitamin C to live a healthy life. Did you know that the *average* guinea pig needs 20 -25 mg per day to remain healthy? Guinea pigs cannot produce their own vitamin C, so it must be supplied in the food they eat. The healthiest way for your guinea pig to receive the proper amount of vitamin C per day is by feeding fresh, raw foods that are rich in vitamin C.
Bell peppers are near the top of the Vitamin C list! If you have a cavy companion, check out this list of Fresh Foods Rich in Vitamin C.
